Our Mission:
Empower.
We envision a world in which all people are supported in their resistance to violence, exploitation, and degradation, and in claiming their rights to safety, respect, and autonomy.
We envision a world in which all people are supported in their resistance to violence, exploitation, and degradation, and in claiming their rights to safety, respect, and autonomy.
All of our programs are 100% supported by volunteers. Our trainers work together across state lines to support a community of resistance to violence. Our work is always empowerment-based and we work with different affinity groups in different spaces. No matter who we are training, we are always committed to dismantling systems of oppression. We work in solidarity with our trans-sisters and reject radical feminist ideologies that isolate and endanger other women.
In a time when we still cannot offer our full programming, we offer you this short zine of self-defense curriculum created by Warrior Sisters and FistsUp! Eugene trainers. Through the pages you’ll learn new skills for identifying abusive behaviors, setting boundaries, de-escalation tactics, and of course, some basic physical defense principles to help keep you safe.
Our collective acknowledges that trans and nonbinary folx experience an abhorrent rate of gender-based violence and daily oppression. To fulfill our mission of direct action-based gender liberation, our organization is making clear its commitment to serve and build community with LGBTQIA+ communities.
STREET JUSTICE & COVID verbal EDITION skills 101 - empowerment for protest.
How to support voices in your community
1. BEFORE YOU GO TO A PROTEST, consider what level of involvement you feel comfortable with: this can change daily, just keep checking in with yourself
2. AT THE PROTEST We want to be aware of surround- ings so if we are in danger we can be aware of what our options are, including getting away quickly
3. CHECK IN WITH YOUR PRIVILAGE. before you get involved (if you are white, listen & elevate BIPOC voices)
4. TRY USING AN ACTIVE VOICE: active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the verb. It follows a clear subject + verb + object construct that's easy to read.
Why is ‘no’ precious, even transformative? ‘No’ is an assertive, clear, unequivocal, and unapologetic boundary.
Warrior Sisters’ verbal self-defense curriculum includes an exercise we call the “Bill of Rights,” in which we go around a circle and each name a right we identify within that moment. One of the rights we always strive to include is the right to say no. I’ve been identifying with this right lately, as expectations about how and where I invest my time and energy have shifted and intensified during the coronavirus pandemic. The right to say no is a necessary means to personal transformation, especially now.
Self-defense is a basic human right. As people head out to the streets to show up for racial justice, Warrior Sister’s trainers have prepared a quick and accessible practical self-defense guide to help keep you safe. You can download the full social media manual/package to share with your community.
April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, “the goal of SAAM is for individuals and organizations to raise public awareness about sexual harassment, assault, and abuse and educate communities on how to prevent it.” This year, SAAM is celebrating its 19th anniversary with the theme, “I ask.” One variation of the theme, “I Ask for Consent,” raises awareness that consent is a normal and necessary part of sex.
For those of us who have dealt with trauma, depression, and/or addiction, changes in routine and the loss of social connection can be devastating. You might be feeling overwhelmed, or you may even be watching yourself slip into bad habits you’ve overcome in the past and honestly, that’s a pretty normal response. That’s why self-care and self-advocacy are going to be critical as we all move through this cluster of an event.
To all who are struggling with or anxious about their health or the health of loved ones during this crisis, our hearts go out to you and yours for wellness and healing. To all who provide healthcare and other essential services during this time, we see you (and acknowledge the risks you are taking daily to care for our community) and are infinitely grateful. While we are all trying to adjust to a new, uncertain, ever-changing reality, we want to reach out to you with resources and support to keep moving forward through this crisis together.

Our trainings incorporate a mix of verbal, physical, and awareness skills intended to be accessible regardless of experience or level of fitness. We discuss strategies to stay safe and build a community of resistance to violence.
Our trainings center marginalized communities including black, indigenous, people of color, queer, trans and gender non-conforming participants. Warrior Sisters is inclusive to all people including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals and as folx with these identities face disproportionate amounts of violence, especially transgender and/or non-binary community members.
We create space for people to come together, share experiences, make their own choices, and learn life saving self defense skills in a safe and welcoming environment.
In addition to offering free open trainings to communities most affected by heteronormative patriarchy, Warrior Sisters also takes requests for private trainings on a sliding scale donation basis. We have trained university groups, youth groups, business staff, nonprofit organizations, kid's camps, Girl Scout troops, groups of friends, and more. If you are interested in scheduling a training for your group or business, we will work with you on the length and content to fit your specific needs.
Warrior Sisters is also available to speak at educational events or workshops on topics including, but not limited to, sexual assault prevention and consent, self defense, dismantling rape culture, and community organizing.
Since 2014 the Warrior Sisters Collective has provided hundreds of free self-defense trainings.
